Overview
editDovetastic Microwave Theater is a long-running entertainment-show on Youtube, where the artist Kenny Irwin, better known as the user Dovetastic at youtube, try out what happens with different things when put inside a microwave oven and exposed by microwave rays over time, and makes both real time-art of the microwaving, and art like "slugs" or other things of the debris. This show was the first big one to start up, with others following, inspired by dovetastic. Dovetastic has the artist name "The professional microwave operator", he claims that he has 30 years of experience with doing those experiments.
It is very dangerous to microwave things at home, and therefore the show clearly tells you to not attempt at the experiments yourself. Dovetastic uses a gas mask to avoid inhaling the toxic fumes, have extinguish eqiupment at hand, and does the experiments in safe places, mostly inside an armored box formed like a robot with good quality cameras recording.
The result of the shows is usually lots of nice lightshows of sparks and melting of the item, fires very often occur, and sometimes explosions.
One of the most spectacular episodes who are ever recorded, is where he microwave a running smaller microwave, who microwaves a lightbulb. [[1]] He repeated the experiment in late 2010 with another microwave.
History
editKenny Irwin microwaved started by microwaving a lightbulb when he was 6 years old in 1979. His microwave art won a US competition in 1989. But the first recorded episodes was made in 1991 and aired on a remote college server. Kenny has however said that there are episodes from 1984 but that they're in black and white, and they have no sound. Fans don't mind and want to see them anyway, and he promised to air them as a result as soon as he finds them. From 1992-2005, his microwave show aired on different web servers. His catchphrase "Remember, microwaving food is for morons" debuted in 2003. The known main show on youtube was started on March 29 of 2006, when he aired a microwaving of a lightbulb. The show has for the most aired episodes continously from today (januar 2010).
At first, the show was just a short video where he microwaved different small items at his workshop. Then the video developed with better cameras, more equipment and more "talkshow" and producing of art, until he in March 2009 introduced a huge armored "robot" AMIR 9000, built of destroyed microwases, and a strong steel box, and a lot of lights for show. At first, the narration was done by a text to speech voice not unlike Siri, but was eventually changed to his own voice when viewers responded more positively to his own voice when he narrated an episode in place of the text to speech voice.
The style of the show has changed pretty often, to adopt to the viewers' wishes, per january 2010 he has aired about 400 episodes just about microwaving, and destroyed nearly 90 microwaves in the filming. The MALIK 11000, his second "robot" debuted nearly two years after the AMIR 9000 did when it debuted in late 2010. He has alternate names for all of his tools, such as the "precision spatula", the "dull rusted snippers" (pliers), the "bam slam gadget" (hammer), and the "hydrosonic boom blaster" (power washer). The boom blaster, which debuted in August 2009 as the "hydro raygun" initially to put out fires too big for the "liquid coolant device" (spray bottle) is announced with much gusto to emphasize the "boom" and has proved to be the most popular (albeit the most controversial) of his gadgets, so after early 2010 it entirely replaced the "liquid coolant device" and in summer of 2010 the announcement changed from "hydro BOOM blaster" to "hydrosonic BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM BLASTER" and as of 2012, there's a title screen to announce its presence added for those who are not fans of that feature of the show.
