Sand Section (Band) is a Alternative , Surf, Rock, Reggae Band based in Manhattan Beach, California.

History

edit

In Manhattan Beach, California, the term "sand section" is used to describe areas of real estate near the town's beaches. Formed in 2008, the band is comprised of lead singer/guitarist Jeff Nison, bassist/vocalist/percussionist Tony Gonella, and drummer Sam Mandelbaum. Before forming Sand Section, the musicians played in various other bands, such as MOSS "which had successful gigs at venerable L.A. clubs like The Roxy and The Whiskey."[1]

The first time the band played together was in 1998, when the members were still in middle school. However, they didn't offically form Sand Section until Gonella and Nison were upperclassmen at UC Santa Cruz and UC Santa Barbara respectively. After forming, they played many shows at both colleges. Gonella and Nison both graduated 2009 and became full-time musicians playing shows in the "South Bay cities of Manhattan, Redondo and Hermosa Beach,"[1] and occasional shows in L.A., including a "March, 2010 show at the House of Blues in Hollywood and a sold out show at the Roxy in April."[1]

The band’s debut album, "Truth Over Harmony" was released in May 2010.[2] The group is currently working on a second ep which will be released soon.[3]
