Sonnet 5

Do other creatures fall in love like this?
Even the bugs have to find another,
And snakes and scorpions feel childhood bliss,
Returning to mate; to be a mother.
Except they are diff'rent; they have no soul,
Meaning surely they cannot be in love.
My feelings have not a faunal equal
And are as pure and potent as the dove.
Why, then, did we name a creature lovebird,
As it cannot feel love the way I do?
This animal has no measure, no word,
So it is less than my feelings for you.
O, you mean more than the beasts of the Earth:
Nature has ne'er seen such love of this worth.
