Author's note: This one has a funny little backstory to it... we were driving back from a trip, and I was with two ten year-old girls. They were singing. And this singing was high in volume and high in pitch, but low in beauty. As they tried to sing the Oreo song on the back of the package, I was inspired.
Sonnet 91
Angelic voices have never been sweet
Compared to the voice that I hear tonight.
Oh! in no dreams could such music I meet,
And no memories have known words so right.
'Tis the diff'rence between the night and day
Your melodies and those of symphonies
For never could the performers past play
Their tools as you with your vocalities.
So sing, Siren! Sing for me one more time --
You have brought me thus far, no need to end.
As sailors fall to your entrancing chime,
I will not bring distinction to the trend.
Do not destroy me, say not your voice lied;
For me there is nowhere, save by your side.
