Internet Cultures: Theory and Practice

edit

Internet Cultures: Theory and Practice is the title of a module in the Master of Arts in Media, Culture and Communication at the University of London's Institute of Education. The module was re-acredited in 2008, evolving out of a previous taught module in multimedia design. The module represents part of the commitment of staff on the MA to offer opportunities for both theory and practice in relation to the study of popular culture, mass media and digital communication technologies. Key components of the course may include the creation of a blog, interaction via social networking sites and learning in virtual worlds. Many students at the Institute of Education are teachers and this module allows teachers of English and Media to engage at a theoretical level with the opportunities and challenges of new media, concurrently with experiencing them in their own school classrooms. The lecturer for the module is John Potter.
