A person who routinely works at jobsites away from the employer's office, usually to provide onsite help to customers. A person who is responsible for hardware installation, maintenance and repair. Formal training is in electronics, although many people have on the job training and experience. Employees must be highly skilled with a high degree of knowledge and ability to apply their knowledge, and to use discretion and judgment in their duties. The individual must apply systems testing techniques and procedures. The design, documentation, testing or modification of hardware related to electro-mechanical machines and electronic systems must also be performed. The term field engineer is generally used to refer to specialists with training as mechanics or technicians. Can include all fields of engineering. Include persons concerned with practical application of physical laws and principles of engineering for the development and utilization of machines and materials, instruments, processes, and/or services. Specializations may include research, design, construction, testing, procurement, production, operations, and/or sales. (Work requires knowledge and experience equivalent to at least that acquired through completion of a 4-year college engineering program.)
