Madame Francoise de Graffigny (1695 - 1758) was a French writer and observer of contemporary life.In 1820, 29 of her private letters were published under the title of The Private Life of Voltaire and Madame du Chatelet.

The village of Graffigny-Chemin, France served as a billeting area for American soldiers during the First World War. My grandfather, a soldier with the Second Division billeted in Graffigny, met my grandmother, a resident of the village, during the war.
