Afrissippi are an afro-beat/Blues band from Mississippi. They were founded by members Guelel Kumba, Eric Deaton, Garry Burnside, and Cedric Burnside in 2006. Members Kinney Kimbrough and Justin Showah joined shortly afterwards. Since their formation, they have released two studio albums, Alliance and Fulani Journey.
Style
editAfrissipi draws heavily from the musical traditions of western Africa and the blues of America. Band members Geulel and Eric feels that the music that the music of the Fulani people and blues were eerily similar and basic the music around this. Blues musicians John Lee Hooker and R. L. Burnside were also very influential on the musical style.
