Viruses is a group of ultramicroscopic , non cellular highly infectious agents that multiple only intracellularly inside the living cell without involving growth and division.
GENERAL CHARACTER OF VIRUSES
- Viruses are non cellular ultramicroscopic infectious agents.
- They are highly pathogenic and cause infectious disease in animals and plants.
- They are easily transmitted from one organism to another by means of a vector. The virus is transmitted by arthropod is called adenovirus.
- they are perfect obligate parasites and cannot be grown on artificial culture they are inert outside the host cell.
- Viruses can be various shaped
- 1) Spherical- AlFalfa mosaic virus, foot and mouth virus
- 2) Cubical - Vaccinia
- 3) Elongated rod shaped - tobacco mosaic virus
- 4) Polyhedral- polio, turnip yellow mosaic
- 5) Tadpole like (bacteria virus T2)
