BANHI

Banhi was an Assamese monthly magazine published in the edit of Laxminath Bezbaruah. In August 1909, students studying in Kolkata and a few migrant Assamese gathered in a room at Laek Jubilee Institute on Mirzapur Street to reconnect with the students.They decided to republish the zonaki paper at this meeting.A few days later, when those present at the meeting spoke to Laxminath Bezbaruah,he said that it would be difficult to edit the article in Kolkata and send it to Jorhat and redistribute it to Kolkata.Instead, Bezbaruah himself asked for an article that would bring out a paper. Accordingly, they wrote the article and handed it over to Bezbaruah. With the support of Jatindra Nath Duvara, he named the magazine Banhi. Laxminath Bezbaruah had a printing press called 'Salkia Printing Works' near howrah residence.The first issue of Banhi magazine appeared in the month of 1831 , the month of Aaghon i.e. November 1909, edited by Laxminath Bezbaruah.Lakshminath Bezbaruah's banhi poem was published under a picture of a woman playing a flute under a tree on the front page of the first issue of banhi in the first year.Harinath Bezbaruah, Assam Bengal store, 2nd Lalbazar Street, Kolkata was the publisher of the magazine is 32 pages in size (14c.m× 22c.m).Banhi were priced at rs 1.8.

The Banhi Magazine first appeared at the end of the english month.But at the end of March, Bezbaruah noticed the magazine in the early part of the assamese month and published the issue of April in Bohag Bihu.
