Greg Davis (born 1992) is an English amateur snooker player. He is the son of fellow snooker player Steve Davis.[2]
Career
editBorn in 1992, Davis played snooker from an early age, learning from his father, the six-time world champion Steve Davis. He made his first century break aged fourteen, and that year defeated his father in a televised exhibition match, having been given a thirty-point start.
Having beaten his father from scratch for the first time the following year, Davis attended college and university before focusing his attention on becoming a professional snooker player in 2012. He had earlier played in Players Tour Championship tournaments during the 2010/11 season, losing 0–4 to Martin Gould in Event 1, by the same scoreline to Stephen Maguire in Event Two and 1–4 to Andy Hicks in Event 3.
In the 2011/2012 season, Davis entered four PTC events; in Belgium, he lost 0–4 to Allan Taylor, while in Events 10, 11 and 12, he was eliminated 2–4 by Duane Jones, 1–4 by Saqib Nasir and 1–4 to Michael White respectively. His Q-School efforts in 2012 resulted in defeats to Alex Taubman, Jamie Burrett and Alex Davies, meaning he remained an amateur for the following season.
That season brought Davis' first competitive match win, a 4–0 whitewash over Bhavesh Sodha in PTC Event 2; he was defeated in the next round, 4–0 by Rhys Clark. In the Gdynia Open, he was drawn against Ding Junhui, but scored only sixteen points in their match, as Ding compiled breaks of 73, 95, 67 and 114 to win 4–0.[3]
Davis' season concluded with a 4–0 defeat to Dave Harold in Event 6 of the European Tour; he has not entered a tournament since.
