GO-X are a four piece rock band from the Heads of the Valleys, South Wales. The band's current line up is Josh Lindner (lead vocals) Avalon Rivers (guitars) Murphy (bass guitar) and Ian Price (Drums). Following their 2009 'Postal EP' GO-X have supported the likes of Elliot Minor, The Blackout, You Me At Six and headlined a sold out UK tour.
History
editThe band was formed in 2007 by brothers Avalon Rivers and Nic Bowler when Avalon was only 15. Alongside best friend Josh Lindner the band went through several drummers before settling on 'Tee' (Jamie Lloyd). Around the same time Nic left the band to work for MI5 and the band drafted in a friend of Tee's called Murphy. Go-X then toured the Welsh circuit extensively building up an enormous fanbase off the back of single release 'Dance Again'. In 2008 they sold out Cardiff barfly and Clwb Ifor bach four times running and earned the attention of Romesh Dadonga at Longwave studios where they then recorded their 'Postal EP'. Shortly after the recording Tee left however, and after a series of auditions Ian Price was welcomed into the band.
Debut EP and touring
editGO-X self released the Postal EP on iTunes in December 2009. Their EP launch at Cardiff University sold over 500 advance tickets and featured a DJ set from Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins. The EP was reviewed 8/10 by Rocksound Magazine and attracted the attention of several managers and booking agents including Ville Leppanen of The Animal Farm.
The band gigged the EP up and down the country headlining to a packed Camden Underworld and supporting Elliot Minor at Cardiff Millenium Music Hall, culminating in a sold out UK tour in July 2010 during which the band headlined to nearly 600 people at Bristol O2 Academy and supported Elliot Minor at Cardiff Millenium Music Hall. In September 2010 they supported The Blackout at Bristol Youth4Youth Festival and later on the same day supported You Me At Six at Hayes.
Present to 2011
editOctober sees GO-X on a Halloween tour with several dates featuring Welsh pop rock band Attack! Attack! and including a headline show at Islington O2 Academy main stage.
New Release
editIn November 2010 GO-X record with The Animal Farm. The first single will be released in January 2011 with a twelve date tour to promote it.
Style
editAt the heart of GO-X is a bursting creative energy reminiscent of the great 90's grunge movement infused with soaring guitar melodies and passionate vocals. GO-X bring a crowd to life and they stick wherever they go, and while they work hard touring the grass roots in 2010 they heap one achievement after another.
Influences
editAvalon and Josh share their influences in being largely fans of Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, other influences include Luna Sea, Fall of Troy, Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. Murphy puts his influence as drink and women, but if forced into a musical corner lists Radiohead, Brand New and The Get Up Kids. All members list Queens Of The Stone Age, Deftones and At The Drive In.
