I contribute to wireless communications articles and other things that take my fancy (e.g. places I've been, History etc.). I work in mobile communications, but the contributions that I make to Wikipedia are strictly personal. I also have a digital camera and intend to get my value for money from it (digital cameras only get to be cheap once you've taken thousands of photos with them..).
Footnotes and Verifiability
editI'm a strong supporter of the idea that Wikipedia should be verifiable. The best way to do this is for everybody to Cite their sources. I personally think that a good way to cite sources is through footnotes and so I designed an autonumbered footnote system based on templates. My system is still in use but obsolete. Please update to the new system instead. The old design worked as a testbed and influenced a number of things in the new design; it can still be seen at Wikipedia:Footnote3. If you have any questions about use of footnotes please ask away. You can also help with Wikipedia:WikiProject Fact and Reference Check or, if you want help with footnotes and fact verification, that's a good place to find people who will help you.
Some people don't like footnotes, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't say exactly where the material you used came from. There are alternatives such as adding HTML comments instead of references. Putting in good references is almost more important than writing articles since a good reference means that others can add to your article and more importantly defend your own additions for you.

Re-licensing my contributions to Wikipedia
editIf you find any of my material which you want to use, but don't like the GFDL then I will be likely to be willing to relicense it to you under other copyleft terms. This can be arranged on a case by case basis by emailing me through the Wikipedia form.
At request of Ram-Man: I agree to multi-license all my text and image contributions to Wikimedia projects under the following licence terms:
Multi-licensed with the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike Licence versions 1.0 and 2.0 | ||
I agree to multi-license my text contributions, unless otherwise stated, under Wikipedia's copyright terms and the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike licence version 1.0 and version 2.0. Please be aware that other contributors might not do the same, so if you want to use my contributions under the Creative Commons terms, please check the CC dual-licence and Multi-licensing guides. |
N.B. Although I deliberately try to generate original material rather than fair use, it is possible that I have imported material with permission. This grant does not affect any licensing provisions on material that I have imported from other sources. In all such cases I will attempt to make clear the correct licensing of those items. For example, NASA images I import without change, would still be public domain.
Those making smaller edits to pages which are largely by me or by myself and others who agree to dual licensing are requested, but not required to also make their edits dual licensable under the same terms. For those making larger edits to Wikipedia, I'd like to point out the benefit of wider cooperation with other projects.
I am planning to add this {{WikimediaAllLicensing}} to my page when the debate about it is concluded.
