Plecanatide, sold under the brand name Trulance, is a medication used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and constipation due to irritable bowel syndrome.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1]
Common side effects include diarrhea.[1] Use is not recommended in children.[2] Safety in pregnancy is unclear.[3] It works by activating guanylate cyclase-C which increases release of chloride and bicarbonate into the intestines.[2]
Plecanatide was approved for medical use in the United States in 2017.[1] In the United States it costs about 470 USD per month.[4]
