Early life
editDionisio Cimarelli was born in Jesi, Italy. At the age of 7, his family moved to Moie di Maiolati Spontini, Italy. In 1975, he was awarded first prize for a painting entered in Premio Natale, an art contest for children.
Education
editIn 1983, Cimarelli earned a [[8]] in sculpture at [Artistico] “[Mannucci]” (formerly Istituto Statale d'Arte “E. Mannucci”) in [[9]], Italy.
In 1989, he graduated in sculpture from the [di Belle Arti] in [[10]], Italy. To collect information for his [[11]], Cimarelli traveled to [[12]] on the [Railway] to China. The trip was made possible by a letter of invitation from the sculptor [Bodini], then [[13]] of the school. In 1988, an article describing Cimarelli’s one-year trip was published in Tuttoturismo [[14]].
In 1994, Cimarelli was awarded a diploma in sculpture at Scola prufesciunela per la artejanat artistich in [[15]] di Val Gardena, Italy. In 1995, he studied at [La Sorbonne] in [[16]], [[17]]. In 1997, he studied with sculptor [Anikushin] at the [Academy of Arts] in [Petersburg], [[18]]. In 1998, he studied at the [of Fine Arts] in [[19]], [Republic].
Work
editAbstract Cimarelli’s began his career creating [|abstract] [[20]] shapes inspired by [[21]]. From 1983-1990, he produced works in [[22]], [[23]], [[24]], and [[25]]. His first abstract sculpture [[26]] was organized by [Elmar Weingarten] at the [Philharmonie] in [[27]], [[28]] in 1999.
Realism Inspired by his [|conservation] experience at the [Museum] in Paris, France, Cimarelli moved to figurative sculpture in 1991. Studying techniques from sculptors such as [[29]], [[30]], [della Quercia], and [Lorenzo Bernini], he produced sculpture in wood, bronze, stone, and marble. In 2001, he created a marble sculpture of [John the Baptist] that was first exhibited in [[31]], [[32]].
Figurative Chinese Series From 2007-2008, Cimarelli create a series of contemporary figurative sculpture in porcelain with colorful, jewel-like [[33]] in [[34]] in the [[35]] [[36]] of [[37]].
In 2010, Cimarelli created Matteo Ricci, a 59-inch gilded [[38]] sculpture finished with 24K [leaf] and [[39]]. The piece was first exhibited at the Italy Pavilion at [2010 Shanghai China]. From 2011-2012, the sculpture was exhibited at the Embassy of Italy in [[40]], China. It is currently in the collection of Regione Marche Government in [[41]], Italy.
Restoration
editCimarelli has participated in several large sculptural and [[42]] restoration projects. From 1990-1991, he worked on the renovation of the Court Napoleon at the Louvre Museum. The courtyard surrounds the [Pyramid] designed by [Pei]. In 1995, he worked on the [Palace Chapel] in [[43]], [[44]]. In 1998, he worked the [Cathedral] in [[45]], France and the [d’Aix] in [[46]], France. In 2002, he restored the [of Civil Engineers] headquarters in [[47]], [[48]]. The following year, he worked on the restoration of the [Palace] and [of Nobility] in [[49]], [[50]].
Zhongkai Sheshan Villas From 2007-2010, Cimarelli served as Art Supervisor for the Zhongkai Sheshan Villas in [[51]], China. Designed by ten architectural firms, the project consisted of 81 contemporary luxury villas. Four of the villas were designed by [Scogin], [[52]] and adjunct [[53]] of Architecture at [University]. Built with stone, marble, wood, and metal, Cimarelli oversaw the quality of materials and [[54]] for the project.
Lectures and Teaching
editCimarelli has been a [professor] at [School of Art] in London, England, and [Saud University] in [[55]], [Arabia].
He has lectured internationally at universities including: [J.J. School of Art] at [University] in [[56]], [[57]]; [University] in [City], [[58]]; [Academy of Art] in [[59]], China; [Academy of Fine Arts] and [Renwen University] in Beijing, China; and [College of Art & Design] in [[60]], [[61]].
Cimarelli has also been a guest speaker at the Diocesan Museum in Jesi, Italy and the Beijing International Sculpture Forum organized by [Ministry of Culture] and China Sculpture Magazine in Beijing, China.
