Pseudoxytenanthera ritcheyi is a species of sympodial tropical bamboo endemic to the western coast of India and distributed in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala. Local names for the species are Huda, Manga, Tandali in Maharashtra, Choomali or Chiwa in Karnataka and Erankol in Kerala. The species is characterized by the loosely clumped slender and mostly solid culms ( stems) with a soft velvety hair. The species is collected from the wild and used for the manufacture of walking sticks, umbrella handles, baskets and is used as stakes for vegetable cultivation and for drying of rubber sheets. It is a preferred species for making bamboo bicycle frames
