About me

edit

My name is Maurine. Thank you for visiting my user page. I am a wife and mother and am currently enrolled at a local community college in their ATA Business Administration program. I work in IT, am a fan of sci-fi/fantasy movies and characters, and I love crafts - mainly painting, drawing and crocheting. Why sci-fi (science fiction)? I guess my interest in technology is what pushes me towards sci-fi as it blends fiction with actual or imagined science. It pushes the boundaries of reality into what could be.[1]

My Wikipedia Interests

edit

I am constantly researching different topics and appreciate the content offered by Wikipedia. I work in IT and enjoy different movie genres and crafts and could see myself adding content that pertained to those subjects.

Article evaluation

edit

I decided to do research on the local pop-culture manufacturer Funko, Inc. As a fan of pop-culture, I like Funko products and have purchased several Pop! figures for myself and friends and family.  I have even considered working there after seeing positions in IT.  I visited the Funko article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: there was no mention on product resellers, no information on the size of its company or locations, and no Wikipedia link for its game called “Funkoverse.”

Company Info:

edit

The current page does provide some history information about it’s founder and current CEO and talks about where its office locations started and where it is now, but doesn’t report all it’s locations, its company size or revenue details.  If I were to contribute, I would add the following:

Funko, Inc is headquartered in Everett, WA, with a total of five store front locations: Everett, WA; Chatsworth, CA; Hollywood, CA; San Diego, CA; and London, UK.[2]

As of 2020, Funko has 702 employees and generates $652.5M annually in revenue.[3]

Resellers:

edit

I feel it's important to state where you can find Funko products to direct customers that may be interested in purchasing it after reviewing the Wikipedia page. I would recommend adding the following information under a "reseller" heading: In addition to Funko’s brick and mortar stores, you can purchase via their website (funko.com) as well as popular retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, BestBuy and GameStop.[4]

Funkoverse:

edit

I did not know that Funko branched out to creating board games as part of it's product line. Being that these board games also include Pop! collectible toys as their game play characters is very appealing and a great way to collect several characters based on a certain theme. I would recommend adding the following content to expand on their "Funko Games" heading: Funkoverse is a strategy board game for kids and families.  Every pack contains four missions, and there are two for each side of the reversible board.[5] Each game contains the same scenarios: Leaders, Flags, Territory, and Control, but the characters for each set are different, which adds a different dynamic to how the game is played. Currently they offer 13 different game sets to choose from.[5]

Summary:

edit

Overall, I’d rate this page “okay” as it does give a general overview on several aspects, but it was missing some basic company information in my opinion, such as listing out their current locations, number of employees and annual revenue. It also failed to mention where you could purchase their items or provide a link for a new gameboard they released to the market in 2019.  I would also recommend going more in-depth on its production process, Comic-Con convention work and reveals as well as noting philanthropy work it does, which there was no mention of.
