AERATE SOUND

edit

Aerate Sound is a Bangalore-based Audio Visual A duo made up of Joe Panicker and Naquash.

Aeratesound, the band formed in the middle of 2015, These duos are a collaboration of beats and visuals. Both the sounds and visuals are usually recorded through field recording, sampling and improvisations. They use Ableton to process the sound and Resolume Arena to produce visual narrations and projections[1]. They have been performing under Consolidate from 2016 to 2020. In the beginning of 2016 , their first single 'Battle' released through Soundcloud as a part of compilation called Consolidate FRNDS & FMLY 2016[2]. This was along with the artist like _RHL, Disco Puppet, Pardafash,Aniruddh Menon and Oceantied.

Background

edit

During 2015, Bangalore was welcoming a second phase of the electronic music scenario, an extension of Sulk Station (2011), Unnayana (Prasanth Palmoni), _RHL (Rahul Giri), and many other beacame inspiration points for young artists to accelerate their individual productions. Platforms like Soundcloud and YouTube fueled online music releases as never before (In a global timeline, Myspace gradually replaced by Soundcloud). The emergence of new MIDI controllers also seems to be another element to embrace the artist into electronic music in a live environment. Artists performed across The Humming Tree, Social, B flat, Blue Frog etc. This invisible history of Bangalore's electronic music history is yet to be studied and needs to be understood in depth.

Releases

edit

Experiencing these in a closer range, a year and a half later, on March 2017 they released their first single ‘Soul Harvest’ from their highly anticipated album[3] 'Only for External' (nine-track album) which released on the same month (March 13, 2017), considered an attempt at capturing the space they live in - via sounds and visuals.[4]. This album were very sonic and ambient with surounded by beats and visuals.

Consolidate showcased[5] them in significant venues like The Humming Tree, Magnetic Fields Festivals[6] and Boiler Room Bangalore edition 2017[7] and REPRODUCE listening room. They have been featured in Rolling Stone India (Apr 07, 2017), Wild City ( A significant online magazine based in Delhi), Deccan Herald and Indian Express. In March 2017 they have released their single. Their live sets merge a sound inspired by the sample-driven hip-hop/beat culture (think DJ Shadow, J Dilla) with video art And visual experiments to create a highly cinematic and immersive experience. They released their debut album, Only For External, this March via Consolidate, a Bangalore-based record label/collective.

In their own words, 'Only For External' attempts to capture their living space. In the album, Aerate Sound employ abstract sonic patterns, beat-centric instrumentation, folk samples and field recordings to create a layered soundtrack that transitions effortlessly through disparate sounds, textures, structures and moods.[8]

In 2017, Consolidate released a music video featuring Smokey the Ghost in a Track called Down Baby Down[9]Continuing this, in Apr 4, 2019, Aerate Sound collaborated with Eleven Elements Studio to bring out a futuristic visualisation for their track called 'Mages'[10][11] The video touches various familiar themes yet it makes the viewer’s imagination wander a bit. Joe says, “We were really happy about the support we got from the community upon the release. It would not have been possible without the incredible work from the whole team at the Eleven Element Studios.”[12]
