The assignment topic is based around the impact of HIV and AIDS on the Health, Education and Welfare sectors. HIV and AIDS poses a threat to development, the pandemic has negative effects on all three sectors mentioned above. The overall structure of this assignment begins with the discussion on the impact of HIV and AIDS on the Education, Health and Welfare sector. I will give a discussion on the strategy used to alleviate the impact, highlighting on its weaknesses and strengths. I will also make recommendations on how the weaknesses can be addressed to improve the strategy to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS on the Welfare sector. 2. Impact of HIV and AIDS on the Health sector HIV and AIDS have a great impact on the health sector and the service providers. There is evidence that indicates that there is an increase in demand for health services as a result of the epidemic. Infected patients take up to 50-80 percent of hospital beds. This results in other patients with other illnesses not being admitted as they have no room for them in hospitals. HIV positive patients also consume the already scarce health care resources. 3. Impact of HIV and AIDS on the Education sector Education is a very important tool in addressing HIV and AIDS. It can greatly reduce the vulnerability to HIV. People with more education have more access to information on which they base their decisions. Educated people are more easily able to adopt safe behaviors and tolerant attitudes that reduce the impact of the epidemic on others. 4. Impact of HIV and AIDS on Welfare sector Welfare services play an important role in the care and support of infected people and their families, as well as institutions. This sector works in collaboration with the other government sectors; private companies and international agencies in order for it to meet its goals and carry out its functions. 5. CONCLUSION HIV/ AIDS affects everyone from individuals to organizations globally. There is a link however between the Education, Health and Welfare sector as they rely on each other to alleviate the burdens of the epidemic. The effects on each sector are interrelated and the different sectors rely on one another to solve the problem. In order to achieve the desired results, management and coordination of action plans should be strengthened by all partners in achieving a multi-sectoral response to the epidemic. All implementing partners and coordinating bodies should be held accountable in the delivery of the results agreed upon. The welfare sector carries a lot of the burden in the fight the epidemic. The sector alone cannot achieve these goals alone and need the joint efforts of other stakeholders.
