Kravica massacre (1993)

Christmas massacre of 7 January 1993.

The Kravica massacre took place on January 7, 1993 near Bratunac, when then Muslim ARBiH forces, led by Naser Orić, attacked a village defended by village guards. The massacre victims except the village guards were also children and old people.

The youngest victim, Vladimir Gajic 4 and Novica Bogicevic 14.

The oldest victim of the massacre was the motionless old woman Mara Božić aged 89, who was abused and set on fire by Muslim soldiers, then her son was killed. [1]

Negosav (80) and his motionless wife Krstina Erić (81) were tortured and set on fire in their house. [1]

Elderly woman Ljubica Obačkić (75) was killed on her way back from morning liturgy in the village church, and pathologist Dr Zoran Stanković said in her case injuries such as a gunshot wound to the right side of the neck, as well as a fracture in the central frontal area, which shows signs of torture. [2] The motionless Tankosava Stevanović (55) was captured and abused by Muslim soldiers and brutally killed with a knife, and the pathologist found at least 15 stab wounds. [3]

Nevenka Đukanović (45) was also abused in her home. According to some stories, Orić's soldiers cut off her head, however, neither she nor her cousin Vidosava Trišić's body has yet been found and they are missing. [4] Radmila Lukić's body was found with multiple stab wounds and gunshot wounds in the yard, and among the victims were 78-year-old Vladimir Stojanović, 80-year-old Drago Lazić, 75-year-old Vaso Nikolić, 73-year-old Risto Popović , Risto Popović 73 years old, Milo Jokić 66 years old, Boško Đukanović 65 years old, Vaso Nikolić 65 years old. There were 82 wounded, while during the whole war Kravica lost 158 inhabitants. 690 houses and auxiliary buildings were burnt down, the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was razed, cemeteries were destroyed and graves were dug. Prior to the arson, widespread robbery was carried out by several thousand civilians who took part in the attack along with RBiH army soldiers. [5] After the worst winter and heavy snow, the refugees crossed the Drina River and entered Serbia. In March 1993, the army of Republika Srpska launched a counter-offensive and recaptured Kravica after 70 days. Only then could the inhabitants of the village of Kravice bury their dead in the cemetery in Bratunac. [6]

Serbian President Boris Tadic attended the commemoration of cow victims in 2006.[7]
