Background Info

I currently attend school for neuroscience where I've had the opportunity to work on a Parkinson's research project. Additionally, Ive had an internship where our primary focus was looking at endoplasmic reticulum stress induced apoptosis. I particularly looked at reactive oxygen species formation in the BHK21 cells and A549 cells. The purpose of the project was to look at if ultrafine Carbon Black induced reactive oxygen species through endoplasmic reticulum stress. We did observe that reactive oxygen species were induced, but there remains many questions to be answered as to the mechanism in which there is induction of ROS.

Interests

I have a indescribable passion for the brain and particularly neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Parkinson's disease. Future goals include attending graduate school to continue studying and exploring the mystery behind the brain. The brain is such a complex, exciting area of research and their remains an immeasurable amount of research to be done. My favorite book Connectome By Sebastian Seung does a spectacular job illustrating the reasons for intensity and excitement about studying the brain. One interesting topic Seung discusses in his book is the idea of using skin cells and differentiating them to become dopamine producing neuronal cells to implant them into the patients of Parkinson's disease. Seung also discusses other various ingenuis ideas of current neuroscientists that will hopefully be successful in treating other neurodegenerative diseases.
