Davy McMaster was appointed Ulster coach in February 1991, in place of Harry Williams. His first match was against the Scottish Saltires on 27 February. The selection committee was chaired by Brian Turtle,[1] and also included Richard Milliken, Joe Miles and Tom Matthews.[2]

JJ McCoy, Willie Anderson and David Irwin retired from playing.[3]

Derek McAleese made his debut for Ireland on 21 March 1992.

Mark McCall and Ronnie Carey made their debuts for Ireland on 30 May 1992.
