Nimpo (Mike Jones) is currently a part time RSE at the University of Manchester. He was formerly a researcher at the University of Manchester, then an IT Systems Development Officer for Jisc becoming Head of IT Infrastructure there before retiring. He retired (took a career break, in hindsight, is a better term) in 2018 due to Stage IV bowel cancer. Under the care of staff at the Christie_Hospital he receives monthly Nivolumab, which has arrested the disease, allowing him to return to work in February 2022. The treatment funded on compassionate grounds by Bristol_Myers_Squibb.
His main areas of interest are:
- eScience
- Cloud Computing
- Grid Computing
- Grid security see e.g. Trust_federation, VOMS, PERMIS, ...
Though he's been known to branch as far as:
- Snowboarding
- Light hovercraft racing
- SCUBA diving
- Piano playing
- Learning Chinese
- Magic The Gathering
- Judo, Karate and Ninjutsu (which is where my moniker Nimpo comes from: a mis-transliteration of 忍法)
- Scouting (where he is a Cub Scout leader at 23rd Manchester Scout Group and Sea Scout Troop Assistant at Chorlton Scouts
... You can often find him here at home or here at work, although he likes to move around a bit.
