Thank you for reading my page I appreciate your time,

Article Evaluation

I have been a cosmetologist for the past 5 years. I have been passionate about playing with hair and doing makeup since I was a child. I visited the hairdresser page on wikipedia, I noticed three things worth commenting on: Firstly there is a lack of citations, secondly the page is out of date it has a very historical tone, lastly is only the United States is represented as a modern day reference.

Citations

edit

There are only 3 citations on the whole page. The first citation is to 3 pages of an encyclopedia of hair. It is like someone summarized those 3 pages in the book and that is it. There is nothing on the education or licensing process of hairdressers until the very end of the article. There are other citations completely missing. The definition of hairdresser[2] is not cited. They do have cosmetology and barbering linked, both pages have a lot more citations and information. But I would like to see some other sources used on the hairdresser page. The citation under hairdressers of today is not out of date but that paragraph needs to be updated since the statics are from 2008 not 2019.

Out Of Date

edit

It is basically just a historical perspective on hairdressing there is so much lacking from 20th and 21st century hairdressers. Vidal Sassoon, Paul Mitchell, Sally Hershberger, Orbie Canales, Nicolas Jurnjack etc. Are all modern hairstylist who have shaped how we do our hair to this day. At the very least I was expecting a list like other pages have of celebrity hairdressers. The only thing listed under modern day hairdressers is some of the regulation for working in the untied states and some old stats about how fast our industry is growing.

American Bias

edit

America is the only modern-day perspective. America is not even represented well. There are so many other countries that have shaped modern hair styles. In the history of hairdressing you got a sense of the global effort hair styles have evolved from over time but not where there are today. Hairdressers here in America have a different style and experience than say Japan. I would like to see a global emphasis on hairdressing today.

Summary

edit

Over all I would rate this page 6 out of 10. The sources they do have are solid and the history of hairdressing again is solid. I just left wanting more. They lack modern day perspective and it is very bias to America. I did not notice any grammatical mistakes or historically wrong fact. This page has a solid foundation just needs more than the skin and bones it has now.
