New countries in the 21st century (draft)
editThis page lists countries that gained their independence and were accepted into the United Nations in the 21st century. Serbia is excluded from this list as after Montenegro declared independence from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, it was renamed to Serbia, so technically Serbia did not gain independence in this century, as on 5 June 2006, the National Assembly of Serbia declared Serbia to be the legal successor to the former state union.
