Nkoko365/Jayaguru Nyati a.k.a Robert Godfrey Musasiwa Kazembe Jayaguru Nyati, who was then known as Robert Godfrey Musasiwa, contested for the Mbare East Seat in the 2000 Zimbabwe parliamentary Election. The Results of that seminal and up to now only electoral bid for public office were as follows: ‘MBARE EAST: Tichaona Jephta Munyanyi (MDC) 10,754; Tony Gara (ZANU (PF)) 4,265; Robert Godfrey Musasiwa (Ind) 232; Stephen Guvira (ZUD) 109.’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwean_parliamentary_election,_2000, https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/soc.culture.zimbabwe/OL3Qr3P9Vgk).

At their time the Zimbabwe 2000 Parliamentary Elections their scale of violence of was unprecedented Though the violence was later beaten into insignificance by the large-scale, if industrial, violence which including mass murder, that accompanied the June 2008 Zimbabwe Presidential Run-Off [1].

The scale of violence of 2008 was documented via graphic news articles and reports that included the Guardian [2]. However, the objective of the discussion here is not 2008 but the Zimbabwe 2000 Parliamentary Election violence in the context of its bearing on Jayaguru Nyati. To put paid on the electoral violence in the lead-up to the June 2000 Election an authoritative source is quoted as follows: ‘Thirty people, including five commercial farmers, … died in Zimbabwe in the run-up to the election’ in which ‘ Opposition parties say an estimated 10 000 were displaced by the pre-election violence’, (http://www.zimbabwesituation.com/jun27b.html)

Jayaguru Nyati as he is now known, was beaten, thrown into a flooded disused quarry and left for dead by marauding ‘suspected’ ZANU pf assailants in the run-up to the 2000 Zimbabwe Parliamentary Elections (ibid). He was admitted to the avenues clinic for emergency specialist medical treatment and he quite literally escaped amputation of one of his legs by a whisker as the following excerpts show. ‘The independent MBARE East candidates, Musasiwa said from his hospital bed: "The doctor told me that they were going to amputate my leg had I delayed for another day." He said that ‘his attackers threw him off a water-filled quarry near a farm in Waterfalls, Harare’ and "They ran away thinking that I [he] had drowned’ and ‘that is how –[he]-- managed to escape," ----‘Misheck Bwanya, Musasiwa's polling agent, said Zanu PF supporters were moving around telling people that Musasiwa had died’ and that "People are being told not to vote for Musasiwa because he is dead. That has confused our supporters,". ---- ‘’The case was reported to the police in Waterfalls, who said they were interviewing a suspect and ‘Musasiwa had to be helped by supporters to go back to his constituency and cast his vote’ (ibid)Nkoko365 (talk) 02:12, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
