Inspector-General

I like the adjective general. Here's a table listing whether an office of the inspector-general is hyphenated and whether the word the is used.

The List-General

edit

What is the List-General you ask? Well, you first need to know about the adjective general. It is a fun postpositive adjective that can be used in conjuncture with offices, officeholders, and positions. Thank DraftSaturn15. That fellow aided me in creating this giant list of positions and offices that have actually existed!

List Australia

edit

So, several organisations in Australia call themselves "[Whatever] Australia". I don't know why and I don't know where this trend started but it's here to stay. I personally hate it but it's still something funny to note. Why do I hate it? It implies Australia is an adjective.

Besides, the name works best if the first word or words are verbs! That implies action! What in the hell is Services Australia? What is it not the Department of Customer Services or the Australia Customer Service (ACS)? I particularly hate government agencies that don't tell what they are. For example, is the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement an agency? You would say, "yes", but that's not in the name! You know the Australian Border Force is a force. You can have a bureau, division, office, agency, service, board, secretariat, directorate—there's way too many in the English language.

Best of all, you can even add the adjective -general onto the end of some! We have directorates-general and secretariats-general. Imagine the goodness that would be reaped from agencies-general or boards-general! You can't have Services-General Australia, can you?

Well, you can but you shouldn't.

Anyhow, here is List Australia.
