The company was founded in 2001 and is backed by the venture firms Sequoia Capital, New Enterprise Associates and Fidelity Ventures.

editOn September 28,2007, Xoom® closed a first E-series round of financing for $20 million.[1]
On March 25, 2010, Xoom® closed an F-series round of financing for $33 million.[2]

editUsers must have a bank account in the United States to send money. On the payment form, while sending money to other countries, the only option available in the "Billing Address Country" field is "United States".
The company provides web-based money transfer services to Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Mexico, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay. US bank accounts or credit cards can be used to transfer money to recipients for cash pickup, bank deposit and home delivery.
