Andrew Leon Kramer (born November 6, 1984)[1] is a visual effects (VFX) and motion graphics artist who has worked on numerous feature films and television shows, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Trek (2009). He is also the founder of Video Copilot, a website devoted to bringing professional-grade visual effects and motion graphics techniques to aspiring visual effects artists.[2]

Personal Life

Kramer lives in Southern California with his wife, two daughters, and son. He did not attend college, instead moving directly from high school to freelance his visual effects abilities.[3] Kramer was married on May 20, 2006.[4]

Career

Andrew Kramer was interested in filmmaking and web design, and had used Adobe Photoshop when he began experimenting with After Effects. Kramer has been teaching himself After Effects since he was 16.[3]

Kramer was 20 years old and freelancing his visual effects skills in 2005 when he founded Video Copilot in his free time. Video Copilot started by releasing basic After Effects tutorials and stock footage. After having tutorials featured on Creative COW, Video Copilot expanded quickly.[2] Kramer has worked with director J.J. Abrams on a number of films, including Star Trek in 2009. Kramer and Video Copilot have created industry-standard plug-ins, like Element 3D and Optical Flares, that have been used in feature films. Video Copilot has produced more than 160 tutorials in Adobe After Effects, and Kramer has spoken multiple times at Adobe booths and conferences.[5]
