Early Life
editOdu was born and raised on the cold streets of Sapele, Nigeria to a family of six. He has two brothers and a sister. He grew up on the 46th house on Ugbeyiyi Street in the Mainland Of Sapele. Gerald's interest in music broadened when he came across some leaked songs from late rap artist, Juice WRLD. He got inspiration and wrote his first song with his elder brother, Zadok.
- He then started taking more of time into his music and working on freestyles, writing and rapping with DAWs like BandLab and FL Studio. He made a couple songs and released them on streaming platform, Audiomack; which he soon deleted after. He attributed his versatile style and heart-scathing lyrics to the artists he listened to while growing up. Artists like Trippie Redd, Lil Durk, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, Lil Peep, Drake and others. Odu began rapping after his close friend, Mitchell Nyore Ofa wanted them to make music together and take it on professionally as a career. He then took on the stage name of BabyTime; before switching to his now name, YDD Maven.
He is an independent artist right now with a small following.
