Lily Tirtasana Neo (Chinese: 梁莉莉; born August 12, 1953) is a Singaporean physician and politician. A member of the People's Action Party (PAP), Neo is currently a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC). She previously represented two other GRCs.

Early life and education

Lily Tirtasana Neo[1] was born in Medan, Indonesia on August 12, 1953.[2] From 1961 to 1969, Neo studied at the Medan-based Primary Thamrin Methodist School. Thereafter she was educated at the Methodist High School in Penang, Thailand. Neo attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where she graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery.[2]

Career

After obtaining her medical degree, Neo became a self-employed medical practitioner, a job she has held since 1985. She is also a member of the political party People's Action Party (PAP).[2]

Neo became involved with politics in 1996 and won election to Parliament in the Singapore general election in January 1997,[1] entering parliament as an MP for the Kreta Ayer-Tanglin Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Subsequently, she became MP for the Jalan Besar GRC for two consecutive terms.[2]

After the 2011 general election, she crossed over to the Tanjong Pagar GRC to serve as one of its MPs. Neo is a member of both the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.[2]

Neo has supported measures to benefit low-income people, particularly children.[3][4]

Personal life

Neo is married to a fellow physician. They have two adult children.[1][5]
