The Cheverly Swim and Racquet Club, also known as the Cheverly Pool, is a private, non-profit corporation founded in 1955 and located at 6300 Euclid Street in Cheverly, Maryland. The club is open each summer for members and their guests. CSR is situated on a five-acre tree-lined parcel of land just a few miles from Washington, D.C..

The Pool

edit

The pool features a 25 meter by 25 year competitive swimming area with multiple lanes. The pool is one of the largest in the area and prior to its renovation in the early 2000s, it boasted 8 competitive swimming lanes. CSR has its own swim tean, the Cheverly Dolphins, that compete in the Prince-Mont Swim League. The Cheverly Pool was the location of the Prince-Mont All Stars Meet for many years. The All-Stars was moved after the pools renovation left it with only 6 competitive lanes because 2 were considered too shallow for diving. The pool employs a staff of lifeguards some of which teach private and group swimming lessons.

The pool also features a water-slide, a 13-foot diving well, and 2 diving boards. There is also a wading pool, also known as the baby pool, approximately 1 foot deep and 25 feet in diameter. The wading pool is fenced-in for young children. Each pool has a separate pumphouse. The pool grounds have chairs, tables, umbrella, lounge chairs, and picnic tables for use by the members.

Tennis

edit

There are six tennis courts on the grounds that are maintained by the tennis staff. Four are clay courts, two are Har-Tru or green clay courts, and there is a tennis wall for practice. Cheverly has its own tennis pro on staff and a tennis team which practice and holds matches at the club. There are several tennis ladders for different age groups. Next to the tennis wall is a sand volleyball court.

Clubhouse and Snack Bar

edit

The Clubhouse features a main entrance with a sign-in area, women's and men's locker rooms and showers, and a lifeguard and first-aid station. Adjacent to the clubhouse is a snack bar that is open daily during the summer season and operated by its own staff. The snack bar sells hot-dogs, hamburgers, pizza, French fries, onion rings, sodas, and a variety of candy and Good Humor ice cream. The snack bar has its own partially covered patio with picnic tables. On Sundays the club allows members to bring picnic food onto the grounds and has a large grill available for cooking.
