Post-metalcore is an underground movement and fusion music genre that combines elements of metalcore with elements of other musical styles such as post-metal, post-rock, sludge metal, ambient, electronic, and shoegaze. Bands cited as laying the groundwork for the genre include Rolo Tomassi, Noise Trail Immersion, Breach, Planes Mistaken for Stars, His Hero Is Gone, Today Is the Day, Pelican, Will Haven, and Neurosis. The genre is characterized by "noisy, thick, distorted guitars", "twisting riffs" and "thunderous drums", and sometimes blast beats.

The Knut album Challenger is viewed by underground enthusiasts as the first "real" post-metalcore album. Other bands viewed as early post-metalcore bands include Harlots, Keelhaul, Thumbscrew, Terrorizer, Comity, Ephel Duath, and .crrust. Though the genre faded in 2010, it would see a revival in the late 2010s with Name, Amia Venera Landscape, Bleak, The Hirsch Effekt, and Invent, Animate. This revival would continue into the early 2020s with Ice Nine Kills, Architects, and Spiritbox being categorized as post-metalcore, adding influences from nu metal, death metal, industrial, djent, and alternative metal. STILLNIGHT, founded in 2022, is considered a post-metalcore band.
