There were also two non-medal events which the World Bridge Federation continued from its Olympiad program in conjunction with the WMSG.

Japan won the third Senior International Cup winners, for national teams comprising players born 1950 or earlier (age 58+).

'Yeh Bros' from Chinese Taipei won the second Transnational Mixed Teams, for teams comprising mixed pairs, one man and one woman. Multi-national teams were welcome (transnational) but there were no multi-national entries.[1st WMSG: home page]

The Open and Women Teams events superseded the World Team Olympiad, 1960 to 2004.

Seniors born 1950 or earlier (age 58+; in process of increase to 60)

  • national, one from each member country

The Transnational Mixed Team is the 11th event and 2nd WBF event, not for WMSG medals.

[Information page of same website http://www.worldbridge.org/tourn/Beijing.08/Information.htm]

  • 1 Yeh Bros, all from Chinese Taipei 2 Russia 3 China (no teams actually multi-national)

The Men and Women Individual events were the seventh renditions of the World Masters Individual, first contested 1992.[1]

  • a small field by direct invitation from the WBF

[Information page of same website http://www.worldbridge.org/tourn/Beijing.08/Information.htm]

Two of the five Youth events continued the WBF under-26 and under-21 national teams championships. One-time under-28 teams, pairs, and individuals championships will be succeeded by pairs and individuals championships using the U26 and U21 categories.[citation needed]

  • national representatives from WBF-member NBOs
  • national team members constitute the pairs; national pairs members constitute the individual; other participants are encouraged (one from each member country) and limited to NBOs who do not send teams/pairs
  • U26 and U21 teams only must qualify in Zonal Championships; other events one from each country

Comment on 2010 European Teams Championship:

Disaster on the 557th and 558th of 560 boards left Russia two VP short of qualifying for the 2011 Bermuda Bowl (see final standings above). The team had finished 5th/8th
