Paolo Francesco Piva is an architect, designer and teacher.

Background

Born in Milan in 1954, and graduated in architecture at Milan Polytechnic in 1978. Cofounder and partner of STUDIODADA and TECNODADA, he has worked on interior design and architecture projects both in Italy and abroad.

In 1980 he took part in the competition held at the Milan Triennale entitled " Interior space after the form of usefulness ".

In the field of product design, he has designed for companies such as: Luciano Marcato, Brunati, Interior ceramiche, Tecnodada, Villeroy & Boch, Felice Rossi and Egoluce.

At the FARBE DESIGN in Stuttgart in 1985 with STUDIODADA he presented, in collaboration with Olivetti, one of the first examples of a computerised system for ceramic tiles linked with an automatic order management system.

In 1988 he left STUDIODADA and founded Oberon, signing projects for Antonangeli, Milleluci, Luxo Italiana, Ilmo, Biffi Luce, Egoluce etc.

In 1991 he represented ADI as technical lighting expert at the Taiwan Lighting Congress.

In 1993 he partecipated in the Korean Design Seminar in Seul, providing design expertise and consultancy for Korean lighting companies.

In 1998 closed the OBERON experience he founded MADS - the acronimous of MAN-AGE DESIGN-STUDIO, with some of his students from SCUOLA POLITECNICA DI DESIGN, where he was teaching.

In 1998 he was visiting teacher at ROC university in Taiwan.

In his various activities associated to design there is also teaching, that has been carried over to the Scuola Politecnica di Design where he was not only responsible for the indusrtial design department but also the main coordinator at the institutes general academic activities (1998-2000).

From 2000 up to 2008 he teached industrial design and material technology at CSIA Institute in Lugano Switzerland.

He held a master of CAD assisted Interior decoration at Bauer Institute in Milano

He is currently a member of the Scientific Commitee on CAD/CAM in ADI.

With his LAZY-LIGHT, a table motorized halogen lamp for Luxo Italiana he was:

  • awarded for the design of the most innovative lamp in 1989 at the Paris EXHIBITION.
  • COMMENDATION IN 1989 ROSCOE Resources Council Product Design Awards Program.
  • SELECTED FOR THE 13TH EXHIBITION BlO IN LJUBIANA.

Selected between the 30 most famous italian designers, he parthecipated at the SKY DISH DESIGNcontest in 2004.
