This post is by an academic librarian by practice and passion, detailing the place of libraries in Wikipedia.

Since time immemorial libraries have been custodians of knowledge generated and stored for future reference. With advancements in technology, this status is changing and libraries are now becoming creators of knowledge since they have an advantage of accessing information under their custody[1]. This is being done by librarians. As a practicing librarian, am excited to be involved in the creation of knowledge rather than being a repository of knowledge. This calls for a rethinking of the training of librarians, which is one of my research interests. Libraries hold a lot of wealth of knowledge, unknown to the would-be consumers; no known platform has existed to give librarians an opportunity to tell the world what is held in the libraries. Wikipedia, has come in to fill that gap, and am happy to start contributing through this platform.

Conflict of Interest Statement

I work in a university library as a professional librarian. My work entails providing information services to clients in various formats, responding to their information queries among other responsibilities. As I make edits and contribute to articles in Wikipedia, I will adhere to the policies and guidelines outlined by Wikipedia and I will propagate the goals and objectives of Wikipedia.
