Even though ocean water and river water are normally differentiated as salty and fresh water respectively, every body of natural water contains a certain percentage of salt. Salinity is dominated by dissolved carbonates, chlorides and sulphates of calcium, magnesium and sodium (Pillsbury, 1981).
