Born in Castellamonte and raised in Rivara (Turin), a small village in Piedmont, he graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Turin. In 1991 he moved to Berlin where he has been working as a director, dubber and voiceover artist for TV and film productions.[1] He has also published articles on Germany's culture and politics in various Italian and Swiss daily newspapers such as Il Manifesto, Il Secolo XIX and Il Giornale del Popolo. For DeutschlandRadio, Deutschland Funk, WDR, RBB and other German public service broadcasters he has authored features on culture and society.

As a dubber Gianluca Vallero has been the german voice of some well known Italian actors like, among others, Riccardo Scamarcio in John Wick 2, Salvatore Esposito in Fargo IV, as well as Neri Marcorè in The Tourist.[2] In 2018 he played the role of the father in the ARD radio drama "1933 Was a Bad Year" by John Fante, directed by Anja Herrenbrück and starred with Thomas Arnold and Leonard Scheicher.[3]

In 1999 Gianluca Vallero founded Finimondo Productions. The film production company had an immediate success in the international independent film scene with its first short film: Finimondo. The film won the New York Academy Award in the Panorama section at the 2000 Berlin International Film Festival.[4] Many further awards followed.[5]

In 2003 Vallero got to know the European Film awarded director Gianni Amelio and became his assistant director on the international film production The Keys to the House (2004).[6]

Over the years Finimondo Productions has produced a whole series of films that have been acclaimed at a host of international festivals.[7] Finimondo Productions develops mostly fictional film projects but also produces documentaries. Gianluca Vallero and his independent production company is particularly interested in telling stories about people with different cultural identities, as in his documentary ″Balkan Dreams - Life in the Rhythm of 9/16″, which was screened at the 2018 Visions du Réel film festival in Nyon.
