- Father, the Principal, Mr. Vinod Thakkar and RKCian sons, Siddharth and Ansh Thakkar on to Leh 2011......journey began from Kullu-Manali towards the Rohtang La (13058ft), Baralacha La (16002 ft), Tanglang La (17582 ft) – the second highest motorable road of the world, and reached Leh.
From Leh: north-east passing through the Khardung La (18380 ft) which is the highest motorable road and reached Sosoma Village close to restricted area (which is at the base of the Siachen glacier and border of Pakistan). Thereafter, on returning to Leh, went westwards to the Changla Pass (the third highest motorable road) on the route to Pangong Lake and reached to Chushul village close to restricted area (which is the Indo-Chinese border,.... ). The beauty of the Sunrise and Sunset at the Pangong Lake is beyond imagination. One-fourth part of this lake is in the Indian territory and the remaining three-fourth part lies in China.
- 2011 summer, RKCians Gaurang Sanghavi, Anshul Sanghavi, Ruhani Sanghavi(10th std), Aryan Parekh(6th std), Aarav Parekh(2nd std) and Saumil Parekh ('80-'90) went to Leh, through the most beautiful stretch.
The Baralacha pass with the rising golden sun is the most beautiful pass I have ever seen in my life. 40 kms of 'More plains' is another delight. After almost every 50 kms the topography used to change in totality. It's only once that you go there and see it for yourself do you realise that the Indian sub-continent was separate from Asia a millions of years ago. Nubra valley is amazing and Pangong is out of this world. Rode Bactrian camels on desert sand at 12000 feet! Clicked about 3000+ photographs amongst the group; the shutters a-rolling. One advice to all planning to get Leh'd, don't fly, but drive up from Manali; acclimatization is an important part of safe experience, besides the en route scenery.
