Dixboro is an unincorporated community within Superior Charter Township in the US state of Michigan. As an unincorporated community, Dixboro has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own. The village was founded in 18xx by John Dix, a naval officer originally from Massachusetts who served on a privateer during the War of 1812. Dixboro's first post office was founded in 1825, and was located in Dix's home along with the general store which he ran. Early on, Dixboro benefited from its location on one of the main wagon roads between Detroit and Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti. When the Michigan Central Railroad was being established to provide rail service between Detroit and St. Joseph, there was hope that it would pass through Dixboro, providing more opportunity for growth. It was instead established on a route along the Huron River, and this is theorized by some to have contributed to Dixboro's lack of growth over the next few decades.
