NPM

In the infancy of Node it was complicated to install modules that other programmers were writing for Node. Isaac Schlueter decided to write a package manager based on an internal Yahoo package manager. While there were other managers it was difficult to add a module to them. Schlueter was unemployed at the time and sent a pull-request to many of the already created modules on github to add them to NPM.
