I'm Philip Machanick, a computer science academic at Rhodes University, in South Africa. I mostly lurk on WikiPedia looking for minor errors to fix. I'm most interested in computer science, politics (local and international), sustainability and bioinformatics.
I have a PhD in computer science from UCT and a grad cert in higher education from University of Queensland, and work experience as an academic and researcher in various South African Universities, sabbaticals at Stanford and University of Michigan, and University of Queensland, including a couple of years at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience. Prior to my time at IMB, I worked mainly in computer systems (mostly computer architecture) and computer science education, with some minor work on climate change. I've also been involved in green politics in Australia.
