The word porantim comes from the Sateré-Maué language. It has three different meanings:
The Causius-Parintitin used it as a fighting weapon..
The Maué people gave the name porantim to a small club that they used as a canoe paddle and on which they made drawings and inscriptions that represented legends, myths and stories of the tribe.
Porantim, then, means oar, weapon and memory.
