Early life and education
editYeom was born in 1976. Yeosu, Jeollanam-do is her hometown. She gave birth in 2012 and took a break from acting.[32] She is from Yeosu, her mother sold rice in the market, and her grandmother harvested and sold it in her field.[33]
Nation elder sister.[27]
Yeom Hye-ran joined the theater company Yeonwoo Stage in 1999 and entered the screen in 2003 through director Bong Joon-ho's movie 'Memories of Murder'.
Yeom attended Department of Korean Literature of Seoul Women's University,[34] where she discovered her love of acting when joining theater club.[29]
“I was active in a theater club when I was in college. Everyone praised me for being good at it, so I simply thought about what kind of talent I had. My mother said, “What kind of twist did you fall into?” (laughs). After she graduated from college, she worked for a while at a publishing house, but eventually left. While working part-time at Daehangno, she saw an advertisement for Yeonwoo's stage unit recruitment and applied. I didn't know it was such a famous troupe. I even got lost and was late for the audition. Since that was in 1999, it means that I have been doing plays for nearly 20 years.”[32]
Yeom Hye-ran first opened her eyes to acting through a drama club while attending Seoul Women's University's Department of Korean Language and Literature. It was a play that she started because she liked seniors rather than acting, but she was fascinated by the 'taste of theater' before she knew it. At the time, Yeom Hye-ran also took on the role of her man due to her low voice. She seemed to have built a foothold for her diverse repertoire from there. To become a Korean language teacher, she also prepared for the appointment test, but she quit soon after and accidentally entered the stage of the theater company Yeonwoo, where she began to live as a theater person in earnest. Where she put on the play she wanted to do, Yeom Hye-ran was very happy.[35]
actress Yeom's original career aspiration was to be a Korean language teacher
(He confesses that he still checks the spelling of messages). Entering the Department of Korean Language and Literature, she became interested in acting while participating in a theater club in the department.[29]
Yeom Hye-ran started acting in a drama club in her college department. At first, her relationship with her co-workers was friendly and liked her fun, but she began to have talents that she didn't even know she had.
"After graduating from university, I had a job for about six months, and then I realized that I was a person who couldn't go to work. On the way to work, I was already submitting the audition documents."
The place I entered as a new member was Yeonwoo Stage. Yeonwoo Stage is a place where famous actors such as Moon Seong-geun, Ahn Seok-hwan, Song Kang-ho, Kim Yun-seok, Kang Shin-il, and Lee Dae-yeon passed through. I didn't follow famous seniors, it was a coincidence. At that time, Yeonwoo Stage was the only place to recruit new members.
"I was lucky. I was taught by really good seniors. The seniors hate standardized acting the most, so if you do a translation role or show an unnatural appearance, the harsh point is 'Why are you doing that?' used to fly. (Laughs)"
Soon-young is the adopted daughter of Jeong-ah and her husband. She thought she was living happily after marrying a university professor, but in reality, she was assaulted by her husband. Although she lived hiding this fact from Soon-yeong, she ended up on her way to study abroad, which she wanted after a divorce. She finally became a person who lived her own life. This kind of her, Sun-yeong's appearance of her is also similar to her appearance in 'Sleep well, Mom', a play in which Hye-ran Yeom was cast.
Yeom Hye-ran's casting was done by chance. Writer Noh Hee-kyung went to see Na Moon-hee's play 'night, Mother and she saw Yeom Hye-ran, who appears as her daughter in the play, and cast her. The two appeared as mother and daughter again in 'Dear My Friends' following 'Sleep Mom'.[30]
'Sleep Mom' is a "severe" work, to borrow Yeom Hye-ran's expression, starting with her daughter Jessi's line, "Mom, I'm going to kill myself today." In some ways, she resembles Soonyoung from 'DMAP'.
"Jessi from 'Sleep Mom' is a person who divorces herself due to illness and breaks up with her son. Not because this life is difficult, but when she thinks about her future, she thinks that the only answer is suicide. Suicide is never a good decision, but It's the first decision that Jessie makes on her own. That's also like Soonyoung from 'DMAP'. Soonyeong is also a person who made a decision with strength on her own."
2001-2014: Yeonwoo Theater Company and Iru Theater Company
editYeonwoo
editWhile working part time, Yeom saw flyers of Yeonwo Stage audition Yeonwoo Theater Company (Yeonwoo Mudae).[note 1] She was accepted as member and in 1999 debut as an actress with play Choi Teacher ( 연극 ‘최선생’로).[36][37]
The first time I encountered acting in a club, I was considered a precious existence for the first time. Before that, I wasn't good at anything, but after I started acting, it was nice to hear people around me say I'm good at it. But there are so many good people in the theater world. It didn't take long to wake up (laughs). I've never made a choice with confidence until now. I was active in a theater club when I was in college, but I didn't have the courage to go into a publishing company instead of an actor. It wasn't that I liked books very much or had big aspirations for the publisher. I just had to get a job somewhere. My boss quit after my internship at the publishing company ended, and the company told me to go to the publishing academy and do my job properly. At that time, I really had to make a decision. First, I had to decide whether to go to a publishing house or not. In the meantime, perhaps it was fate, the juniors in the club asked me to direct the play. But it's so much fun. I was so confused that I made a choice. Rather than choosing acting with great courage. I started the play in earnest, but the first stage was so trembling that I felt like I could hear my heartbeat. But through that tension, I felt joy. There was a seed in me that liked acting, but it seems that I didn't look into my desire.[38]
Bong Joon-ho
Yeom Hye-ran, who has worked hard on the theater stage for a long time, entered the screen with a small role 'Sohyeon's mother' in the movie 'Memories of Murder' directed by Bong Joon-ho, which was released in 2003. It is said that at the time, director Bong Joon-ho suggested auditioning for her after seeing her performance as a clown in her play, Lee.[34]
Iru
editIn 2004, Yeom and fellow actress Woo Mi-hwa joined Theater Company Iru (극단 이루). Theater Company Iru based in Seondol theater and established by Son Ki-ho. Yeom got recognition as actress in Daehangno through Son Ki-ho's works.
The Iru play "Ask the Blind Father for Directions" (하류인생에도 삶은 있어)[39]
- It was opened at Daehangno on the 4th
- A work supported by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture
- Yeom Hye-ran is evaluated as 'the second Hwang Jung-min' and she is an actress who has been in charge of realistic acting of lower-class people in creative dramas that have recently been talked about in Daehangno.[39]
Actor Yeom Hye-ran (Theatre company Iru) won the The expected theatrical image at the awards ceremony.
Yeom is an actor who clearly imprinted her presence on the audience.
Yeom Hye-ran's record of winning awards tells us not only her outstanding acting skills, but also the traces of her hard work.[31]
Dear My Friend
editYeom debuted in television with Noh Hee-kyung's drama Dear My Friends in 2016. Yeom acted as Soon-yeong, adopted eldest daughter of Moon Jung-ah (played by Na Moon-hee), who struggled with domestic violence.[31]
Yeom was praised for her daughter-mother lasting impression performance with Na Moon-hee.[27] Directed by Hong Jo-chan.
She was cast in the drama by chance. Writer Noh Hee-kyung came to watch Na Moon-hee's play Goodnight Mom, where Yeom played as her daughter, Jessi. After watching her performance in the play, writer Noh offered her role in her upcoming drama, trough Na.[30]
“Teacher Na Moon-hee and the writer are very close, so they came to see the performance. Dear My Friends was in the planning stage, and she said that it would be nice to appear. Thanks to practicing and performing together, it was a great help to the drama. If I had met her for the first time during the drama filming, I would have frozen in front of her since he was a senior I respect so much."[30]
The Most Beautiful Goodbye was a remake of the drama of the same name by Noh Hee-kyung that aired in 1996 on MBC. Reunited with Writer Noh. Directed by Hong Jo-chan.
Yeom as Shin Yang-soon, Kim Geun-deok's wife, acted opposite Yoo Jae-myung, Kim Geun-deok, In Hee's brother.
