Callitriche lusitanica L., is a species of flowering plant in the family Callitrichaceae.
Description
editCallitriche lusitanica L.. are aquatic plants that usually have lanceolate leaves.[1] Lanceolate are linear shaped leaves that have long internodes. Internodes are located between two nodes from where the leaves emerge on the plant stem. Some aquatic plants have shoots that are exposed to the air, the internodes are shorter and have rosette leaves. Rosette leaves are elliptic and have a rounded end.
A genus is a category used taxonomic category that is ranked higher than a species. Chromosomes is a complex of protein and nucleic acids that is found in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells; it carries genes that carry genetic information for the cell to utilize.[2]
Distribution
editFound in Iberian peninsula. Pollen is without exine. Distributed in water.[3]
Phytoremediation usage
edit- Callitriche lusitanica L. has good potential for use of a phytoremediative for heavy metals. Especially so in areas of high heavy metal runoff such as by mines and areas of production where water is used and dumped frequently.
