Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek: Biography And Activism Escapades Of The Student/Human Right Activist.
Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek popularly known as Scotty Aluta is a Nigerian human rights activist, pro-democracy campaigner, writer, blogger, as well as a student/human right activist.
Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek Background He was born on the 18th of May 1986, in Lagos state, Nigeria into a polygamous home as only son of the family. Although, he is originally from Otu, Oyo State, Nigeria.
He graduated from Lagos State University, with a B/Ed in Economics Education in 2016. While in school, he was a vibrant and radical student activist, he was actively involved in anti-cultism and anti-corruption advocacy.
He As An Activist, Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek participated in the student protest of 2014 for the reversal of LASU hiked tuition fee when the Lagos state government led by Babatunde Raji Fashola (former governor of Lagos state) increased the tuition fee of Lagos State University LASU from the sum of #25,000 to #250,000, #350,000 respectively.
Again, Adeyemi participated in a protest that involved students all over Nigeria institutions against the tyrannical regime of the then Vice chancellor (Rahman Bello) of the University of Lagos in March 6 2017 to reinstate all rusticated ULSU executives and a student (Adeyeye Olorunfemi) who was rusticated for criticizing the management of the institution on a facebook post. Among other students suspended were the Students Union President, the General Secretary, the Financial Secretary, the Sport Secretary, the Speaker of the parliament, and other student leaders who participated in a peaceful protest of April 6th and 8th 2016, which led to the suspension of the Students Union.
Because of Adeyemi’s passion for good governance, his arrest and torture didn’t deter him, as he kept on with his fight for good governance. He still participated in the fight for democratic governance supporting and working hand in hand with Omoyele Sowore, a right activist and the publisher of Sahara Reporters when he (Sowore) announced on the 25th of February 2018, that he would like to run for the presidential seat in the Nigerian 2019 general election. Following this announcement, he formed a movement - Take It Back (TIB) and a political party – the African Action Congress (AAC), in August 2018 which Adeyemi was the Lagos state youth coordinator.
He is also a member of the End SARS movement and also participated in most #EndSARS protest and other related protest in Lagos, Abuja and other states respectively. Adeyemi however, has not given up on his quest for a better Nigeria. On account of this, Adeyemi participated in a protest that took place on the 5th of August 2019. The protest was tagged RevolutionNow Days of Rage convened by Omoyele Sowore.
He agitates for good governance and also fight for any form of oppression and intimidation from the Nigerian government, Educational sector, Nigerian police as well as other security agencies who sees oppression and intimidation as a normal way of life.
He strongly believe 'Freedom' is never voluntarily given by the oppressors; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
