Professor Dictabeat is a German Based, Netherlands Raised and Guatemalan-born musician, producer, multi-instrumentalist, Internet personality and DJ.
Although originally born As Armando Ruiz Martinez in Guatemala, Professor Dictabeat was raised in The Netherlands where he learned to play guitar, acoustic drums, bass, percussion instruments and learned to sing. He was in several musical groups such as the South East Philosophies, and local pop groups where he became a skilled multi-instrumentalist. in 1999 he became a certified live audio engineer and used his knowledge to do the sound on mixing consoles for live acts and to help them record studio-recorded music.
Around 2000 he learned to DJ and became a resident at the local talent hub and bar Vaaghuyzen in Amsterdam The Netherlands. Following his experience there, he became an event manager and promotor for techno club nights such as the FokDeHype events and the Lustig club nights. These events took place at the Ministry, Club B, The Westergas Terras and Club Chi in Amsterdam The Netherlands up until 2009.
After almost a decade of playing techno club nights, traveling the world playings club gigs, but also organizing them in the Netherlands, he moved to Berlin Germany, where he spent the next 10 years rebuilding his brand as an artist and expanding his musical repertoire into hiphop, pop, disco, and other danceable styles of clubbing music.
Though he always produced music for others as a ghost producer in the Netherlands he now mainly focuses on making his own compositions and making remixes for others. Professor Dictabeat's music is a lively mix of styles that has a strong Synthwave, Acid house and 80's electro feel with modern-day musical elements blended into them. When performing live, he will use synthesizers along with electric guitars. However, when DJ-ing he is known to mix anything danceable into an eclectic sound.
Professor Dictabeat has regularly performed at Belushi's Berlin, the Toast Hawaii, the Friedrich's Hahn club, The Old CCCP, Musik & Frieden, club Havanna, and the Suicide Circus Berlin and many more.
