Puertoayacucho is Ed Ruiz of Salt Lake City, Utah. Having studied Aquatic Biology in a Venezuelan University in the late 70's and early 80's, Mr. Ruiz has had the opportunity to collect a good part of fish species throughout the Orinoco Basin, Orinoco/Negro transition zone (Casiquiare River and adjacent floodplain), Lake Maracaibo Basin, North Central Venezuela, Northeastern Colombia (Guajira) and the Venezuelan Carribbean Coast and Islands. Has mostly worked with Pterophyllum altum and Symphysodon discus but also with many other Orinoco and Amazon Cichlidae, Loricaridae and Cyprinodontiformes.
