Coordinate Metrology Society
editThe Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) is an industry group whose membership includes original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), related service providers, and users of industrial coordinate-measuring systems. The group was founded in 1984 to advance the use of mobile metrology systems in manufacturing, as well as measurement software or other systems that create, use, and analyze three-dimensional (3D) coordinate data. [1]
The CMS provides technical resources for members, including training and certification in portable 3D metrology. [2] In addition to coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs), 3D metrology systems include inspection software; articulating arms; theodolites; GPS tracking units; laser radar, trackers, and projection systems; photogrammetry and videogrammetry systems; and scanning devices.
The annual Coordinate Metrology Society Conference (CMSC) is held on the U.S. east and west coasts in alternating years, during which CMS members learn about advancements in the technology, present scholarly papers, conduct administrative duties, gain certifications, and network with peers. [3]
The Journal of the CMSC is published every six months by the CMS. The publication comprises theoretical and practical articles by metrology experts.
