The Queensland Museum entered into a small scale co-operative pilot project with local Wikipedians in September 2009. Twenty high resolution images from the A.E Roberts collection of plate glass images were uploaded onto Wikimedia. These photographs show Queenslanders at work and play at the beginning of the 20th century. The Queensland Museum was the first collecting institution in Australia to make a donation of this kind to Wikipedia. The purpose of the trial was to make these photographic images available for use by students and teachers to stimulate skills of historical enquiry. The large size of the files enables the photographic images to be repurposed for student assignments. Interest in these social history photographs, and of the museum's extensive collections, is encouraged
Further contributions to wikimedia and wikipedia will evolve as mutual benefits to the wiki community and the Queensland Museum are realised.
